In a new series of Mythrill Author Spotlight we are introducing you to our very own original story author Raven Diamond — the author of God of Gears; it is new on Mythrill app and has already gathered a loyal readership.
Tell us about your writing? What is your process?
My process is slightly structured and slightly winging it. I typically get my coffee and jam to whatever is my favorite song at the time or fits the scene. Then I write. Sometimes I have a general idea of what I want to happen, but getting my characters to agree is not always easy. 9/10 I end up going down a different and much better storyline. If I get stuck I will ask someone a random question with no context and go from there. It’s really just controlled chaos with random scientific or historical facts peppered all around it. I’m a walking encyclopedia. I might as well use that knowledge for something.
Who would you say are your influences in writing?
Influences would be Carrie Vaughn, JK Rowling, JRR Tolkien, Amber Benson, and more, but I don’t want to bore you with a long list.
Did you have previous experience with Serialized Fiction before you partnered up with Mythrill or did you have to adapt to the format?
I had previous experience with comics and other platforms, but I’m really liking this platform a whole lot more than any of my previous ones. I made God Of Gears specific for Mythrill. If I take one of my other pet projects later down the line I may need to adapt it for this platform.
What has been the experience like seeing your characters come alive in Lore Cards?
Breathtaking to say the least. The artist are just *chef kiss*. They knew what half my characters looked like better than I could even describe. I can’t wait to see more. I mean I wrote almost one for every chapter minimum and I let them choose what they want. I am also willing to write more based on what they want to draw. I’m flexible with it.
You got 2 sentences to hook a reader into your story. Go!
Silas is given a second chance at life, as something neither human nor magical creature.
Finally, tell us why you partnered up with Mythrill? What made you go for it?
I wanted to be part of a platform that wasn’t all about romance. I’m getting very tired of romance and I love fantasy.
